The doctor:

Dr. Atabakhsh came from a family of teachers and educators.  He had a modest upbringing in southern California, where he attended Grover Cleveland High School.   From his early days he had a zest for learning especially in natural sciences and human biology. Dr. Atabakhsh attended California State University Northridge, where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in Biology with a minor in chemistry in 1992.  It was during his externships at various area hospitals and private offices where he discovered his calling to pursue a career in dentistry.  Dr. Atabakhsh was granted admission at UCLA school of dentistry, where he had the privilege of learning and working with some of the very top world-renowned educators and researchers.   While in dental school, Dr. Atabakhsh was involved in cutting-edge research in the field of dentistry as well as research involving prions and their role in Bovine encephalopathy under leadership of Dr. Kagan and  Dr. Mirzabekov at UCLA School of Medicine.  

In 1997, Dr. Atabakhsh graduated UCLA School of Dentistry with top honors.  Dr. Atabakhsh had a passion for periodontics and implant dentistry from the early days of his dental school.  Soon after graduation from UCLA, Dr. Atabakhsh was accepted as a  post graduate Periodontics Resident at University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston where he completed his residency training and obtained a specialty degree in Periodontics.  Dr. Atabakhsh also completed a Masters degree in periodontics. His research was on osseo-integration of different dental implant surfaces in augmented maxillary sinuses.  

Dr. Atabakhsh performs all aspects of periodontal treatment, including cosmetic and plastic periodontal surgeries to enhance health and beauty of your smile.  For patients with moderate to severe perioidontal disease, a variety of resective and regenerative periodontal procedures are offered to stop the progressioin of the disease.  The aim of the treatment is to regenerate periodontal tissues lost to periodontal disease and trauma.

For patients with hopeless or  missing teeth, Dr. Atabakhsh offers procedures that can replace your missing teeth for proper health and function, all with the aid of dental implants.

Dr. Atabakhsh is a member of American Academy of Periodontology.  He is also a proud member of American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association and The Greater Houston Dental Association.  He is specially certified by Texas State Board of Dental Examiners to perform sedation dentistry, including I.V. sedation, to make your treatment as comfortable as possible.
